I Had Seen Castles
Cynthia Rylant
John Dante is seventeen when the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor, and he wants to fight for his country. But then he falls head over heels for Ginny Burton, who is against all war, and his beliefs are suddenly questioned. Rather than be judged a traitor or a coward, though, John enlists--a decision that changes his life forever.
This book gets to me every time.
It is a quick read that makes you go through WWII through the eyes of a boy wanting to enlist before and after he gets drafted.
I love how the author is short and concise yet very detailed with what she offers us (the readers). Not only is it interesting to read, but it also explores different themes and meanings that the author was trying to show.
It gets to you. It got to me, and I'm sure that it gets to a lot of others. It's sad, but true. This book depicts the harsh reality that people had to (and still have to) go through.
It is pure goodness.
My Rating:
1/5 I didn't like it
2/5 It was okay
3/5 I liked it
4/5 I really liked it
5/5 It was amazing
